More Issues in Media and Society

If you want to look at other issues that appear in media, you should definitely visit my colleagues' blogs!

The first blog I visited is about how women are portrayed in media and its effects. Zoe writes about the negative portrayal of women in media and why they should not be displayed in this way and tries to break the stereotype. Zoe aims to encourage media owners and writers to break these stereotypes and depict women differently in media. On her blog, you can find exciting articles where she writes about the percentage of stereotypical portrayals in various media, for example, news stories. If you are interested in this issue and want to find out more, you have to visit Zoe's blog!

The following blog that I found interesting is about social media and self-perception. Veronika writes about social media's negative and positive impacts on users' self-perception. Interesting studies also look at the adverse effects and mental health of social media users, especially young ones. Finally, Veronika recommends some articles and websites to help with the mentioned concerns.

The next blog I would like to recommend is social media and its problems. Mychael includes the issue of mental health and social media usage and how it is connected. The blog also contains studies on depression and social media usage and gives us unbelievable numbers. It is essential to talk about this topic as many people do not take this issue seriously, especially older generations. Check out Mychael's blog to find out more.

Another blog I visited is totally different but somehow connected to the previous topics. Lisa's blog is called Profit-Driven Stereotyping in Media. The most exciting article was about a popular Netflix show called Emily in Paris. As I wrote to Lisa, I had never seen a single episode, but she made me actually watch it to see the stereotyping that might seem even bizarre. Liza writes about the stereotypical portrayal of Paris and the people living there and how offensive it may be. I think this problem is not only in this Netflix show but also in any other movie mentioning Paris. Unfortunately, movie creators can create something that might be racist and offensive because of profit and popularity.

Lastly, Daniela's blog talks about the impact of media on children, and they are primarily negative. Thanks to Daniela, I found out that in a study looking at young children and media usage, young kids spend 5 and more hours per day on social media such as Instagram, Tik Tok and others. This is unbelievable, and I think this issue will never stop, as parents are responsible for their children and many parents give their kids technical devices to entertain them. So again, look at Daniela's blog in order to find out more about the issue!
